Revert - Only Good Meaning is Necessary

Lately, few non-Muslims kept asking me, "Pa'ad! Is it necessary for you to change your name to Islamic name when you revert (convert) to Islam?" okay, that is new for me. They really do want to keep their family name.

Well peeps, Islam emphasizes that Muslims should have good names. It is reported from a hadith by Rasulullah SAW, "You will be called on the Day of Resurrection by your names and the name of your father's, so have a good names" (Narrated by Abu Dawud). Do you know that most of us, Muslims actually have Jewish names and Christian names? Example; Ibrahim, Isa, Daud & many more are actually Jewish names. Ida, Hilda, Julia, Maria & many more are actually Christian names. Only few peoples have Arabic names such as Ahmad, Aisyah, Ali, Abdul Rahman and the list go on.

Here is a story about name. The Prophet SAW heard someone called a man among them 'Abdu'l-Hajar (Slave of the stone). The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, asked, "What is your name?" "'Abdu'l-Hajar," he replied. "No," he said, your name is 'Abdullah (Slave of Allah)."

Therefore, it is okay to keep your name as long it has good meaning, as it will bring you benefit blessings through out your life. Islam is a universal religion which does not carry any symbol to symbolize the religion itself &  only Muslims can show what Islam is. That's only one part of it. Take care peeps!
